Upgraded to Wordpress 2.5

Posted by photonovice on April 23rd, 2008

WordPressI’ve just upgraded my Wordpress blog engine from version 2.3.3 to 2.5.

I used to be a techy or even a geek some time ago with Linux and some computer programming knowledge, but my hands were shaking – just like Pumpkin Pie wrote about it – when doing the upgrade.
I was scared of losing my blog.

I installed and upgraded Wordpress previously only with Fantatico DeLuxe which is an extremely easy way of doing such things. Since my hosting provider decided – according to some rumors – not refreshing Fantastico any more, I decided to do my upgrade manually.

It was not complicated at all and everything went quite smoothly. But don’t worry, I will not write about the technical details here – hey this is photography related blog, or what. :-)

I rather ask you to do me a favour: please let me know if you find anything malfunctioning on my blog.

Thanks a lot.

I haven’t found any malfunctions, but wanted to point you at something that could make your future Wordpress upgrades easier. Go here, and get a Wordpress plugin called “Instant Upgrade.” It really lives up to its name, and essentially makes upgrades to your WP install painless.

You’d still be well-advised to do database and page backups before any upgrade, though. Just in case…

I didn’t know about the plugin Argos mentioned, but I use the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin for my updates. It automatically generates backups of your files and your database too.

Thanks, Luis. It seems that only I do manual upgrade. :-) But not anymore.

    Hi Tibor,

I also took the plunge and upgraded. My WordPress version was quite outdated and I am loving the look of the Dashboard in the new version. Like you, I initially installed it using Fantastico but my web host had a new thing called Simple Scripts which made it easy, even though my hands were still sweating :)

Your site is looking good, I haven’t come across any gltches.

    Hi Anthea,

I suspect we use the same hosting provider. :-)

    Thanks for testing.
